Rec is a 5-on-5 mode with random teammates, constant switching, and real screen defense. The build that wins Rec is rarely the one with the highest individual ceiling — it is the one whose strengths still work when the lineup around you is a mess.
Why Rec changes the decision
In Park or iso modes, a shot creator can win games alone. In Rec, spacing, screen navigation, rebounding, and off-ball defense decide most possessions. That rewards builds whose value does not depend on having the ball or on teammates covering for them.
NBA 2K27’s six-discipline builder makes this explicit: you cannot max everything, so Rec pushes you toward the disciplines that translate regardless of teammates — defense, rebounding, and reliable catch-and-shoot scoring.
The three Rec contenders

Two-Way Wing (SF)
The most lineup-proof direction in Rec. Shooting keeps the floor spaced, defense and physicals let you switch across assignments. You will not top any single category, but you fit every lineup you land in.

Defensive Anchor (C)
Controls the two things random teammates most often fail at: rim protection and defensive rebounding. Your value shows up on every defensive possession, with or without the ball.

Scoring Playmaker (PG)
The right pick if you want the offense to run through you. You carry creation and scoring, but in solo Rec you are trusting four strangers to use what you create — and to cover for your lighter defensive investment.
What to give up
Shot-Creating Guard is a Park-first direction. Its self-created offense is real, but in Rec the defensive cost gets exposed over 5-on-5 possessions, and its value drops sharply when teammates do not space or screen for you.
